How do I browse or find scholarships using SnAP?
First and foremost, you MUST have completed the General Application provided by the SnAP system. Once this is completed, login to your SnAp account. In the upper-left corner of the web page, click the “Opportunities” drop-down menu, which shows three links “Recommended, Ours, External”.
Start by clicking and viewing the “Recommended” scholarship opportunities. Recommended scholarships are generated by the SnAP system by cross-referencing your Applicant Profile and General Application with the scholarships available at UIC. Recommended Opportunities will be generated and listed. Click on individual scholarship opportunities to learn more and verify you are eligible to apply. As a student applicant, it is critical for you to understand that recommended does not necessarily equate to qualified. Before applying to a scholarship, double-check that your meet the required criteria.
To view additional scholarships, click the “Opportunities” drop-down to access the “Ours” link. This will list all UIC opportunities available. You may find it helpful to search scholarships by keywords or by using the filter tab located in the upper-right corner. There are three types of scholarships listed:
- Automatch Scholarships: Complete the general application to match. These scholarships appear with “none” listed in the “action” column. Qualifying does not guarantee you will receive a scholarship.
- Apply Scholarships: Complete the additional questions and/or supply the requested documents to be considered for these awards.
- External Scholarships: Awards whose application process is outside of UIC SnAP. Directions to apply may be provided.
Lastly, you can use the SnAP system to search for external scholarships that are processed outside of UIC; however, you will not use the SnAP system to apply for external opportunities. Under the “Actions” column, you can click the “Visit” link to learn more about an external scholarship, including how to apply.
